Top-ranked recruit Josh Selby has been ruled ineligible for the first nine games of the 2011 season for taking over $5,000 in improper benefits. Selby will be eligible to return for the Kansas Jayhawks on Dec. 18.

    Kansas Freshman Josh Selby Suspended 9 Games, Eligible To Return Dec. 18

    The investigation into his eligibility stemmed from allegations that Selby had taken benefits from Bay Frazier, a business manager for Denver Nuggets star Carmelo Anthony. A New York Times article examined the relationship back in April and the opening paragraph in that article that raised some eyebrows.

    In ruling Selby ineligible for the first nine games of the season, the NCAA acknowledged that any added benefits for recruits -- including transportation, food and housing -- are impermissible, even if they come from a family friend. Frazier, in this case, was a family friend of Selby and was working as an advisor during the recruitment process.
