What a great finish and what a performance by UConn’s Kemba Walker. Time and again down the stretch, Walker willed himself open to hit short jumpers or get to the foul line. He was the difference in the game and he took a young team on his back and carried them to a 83-79 win.
Connecticut Vs. Wichita State: Huskies Score Comeback Win
Walker finished the game with 31 points, while shooting 8-of-16 from the field and hitting 14-of-15 from the foul line. That came after only playing just 4 minutes and scoring just 2 points in the first half. Incredible.
Wichita State didn’t just roll over and die though. Give the Shockers credit, they had the lead for most of the game, and by as much as 9 in the second half, but they just had no answer for Walker, who scored 15 of UConn’s final 19 points.
Down 76-73 with 2:29 remaining, Walker hit a huge three-pointer. Including that shot, over the next 1:49 he went on his own 9-3 run. Alex Oriakhi added a free throw to Walker’s personal run to give us our final score of 83-79.
The Shockers won the rebounding battle 36-33, but turned the ball over 17 times to UConn’s 10.
Toure’ Murry led Wichita State with 19 points, while David Kyles added 18 (all in the second half. But it wasn’t enough.
UConn will face the winner of the Michigan State-Chaminade game.
