A turnover-riddled first half has postponed the expected high-scoring outburst in tonight’s Jimmy V Classic opener at Madison Square Garden. With a little over 11 to go in the half, the Kansas Jayhawks trail the Memphis Tigers 15-12, a score you wouldn’t expect from two top-ten offenses.
Memphis Vs. Kansas Score: Uh, About That Shootout ...
Memphis’ defense is known for disrupting passing lanes and swiping balls away, and Kansas is taking a while to adapt. Five different Jayhawks have committed turnovers so far, with seven total giveaways by Kansas. Tigers guard Will Barton has a pair of turnovers of his own.
The Tigers went on an 11-3 run in the past three minutes, led by a pair of Chris Crawford threes. Memphis is three-of-four from three-point range, a stronger rate than they’re usually capable of from far away. Marcus Morris leads all Jayhawks, with five. Tigers forward Tarik Black and Kansas guard Tyrel Reed have a pair of fouls each.
