The Syracuse Orange have come out strong, jumping out to an early 10-point lead over the Michigan St. Spartans behind forward Rick Jackson’s eight points. The Orange’s always difficult zone, a staple of Jim Boeheim’s, is already causing for the problem for the Spartans, limiting the starters to just five points through 12 minutes in New York.

Jackson has been all over the place for Syracuse, scoring eight points, on 5-7 shooting, and grabbing seven rebounds. Forward C.J. Fair added six points off the bench for the Orange. The Syracuse big-men have been the difference, dominating the Spartans inside.
Korie Lucious, coming off the bench for Michigan State, leads the Spartans with eight points in the first half, providing a spark in relief. Outside of Lucious, the Spartans have been cold shooting just 33.3 percent from the field and turning the ball over five teams in the early-going. As a team, the Spartans have pulled down as many rebounds, seven, as Syracuse’s Rick Jackson has alone.
