The Big Monday showdown between Connecticut Huskies guard Kemba Walker and Villanova Wildcats guard Corey Fisher came down to the final seconds, as Walker hit a driving floater to break a 59-59 tie and give UConn the win. The Wildcats now have their first Big East loss.
Villanova Vs. UConn Final Score: Huskies 61, Wildcats 59 As Kemba Walker Scores With Seconds Left
Walker finished with 24 points, Fisher with 28. Though Fisher shot better from the floor, Walker got to the line more often, hitting nine times from the free throw line.
UConn’s Alex Oriakhi and Nova’s Mouphtaou Yarou grabbed 12 and 10 rebounds respectively. There were plenty of boards to be grabbed, especially in the first half when both teams shot 24 percent. Some have speculated the early weekday tipoff may have left each team’s scorers feeling sluggish.
Villanova will try to bounce back against Tennessee, while there’s no rest for UConn, who will get Syracuse next.
