The Illinois Fighting Illini got back on track, while the Michigan St. Spartans saw their briefly righted ship overturned again. Both teams are now 4-2 in the Big Ten, though the Illini are 14-5 overall while Sparty falls to 12-6. Even though we usually don’t worry about MSU since they’ll catch fire come tourney time, this is still a very rough start for Tom Izzo’s crew.
Michigan State Vs. Illinois Final Score: Illini 71, Spartans 62 In Bounce-Back Game
Illini guard Brandon Paul led the way with 20 points, three boards, and a handful of various stat potpourri, while guard Demetri McCamey added 15 points and 11 assists and forward Mike Davis pitched in 11 points and 11 rebounds. Illinois shot a lights-out 53.2 percent from the floor, easily topping Michigan State’s 39.3 percent.
Kalin Lucas, Durrell Summers, and Draymond Green all hit double figures for the Spartans, but poor overall shooting prevented Michigan State from taking advantage of superior glasswork.
No rest for the Illini, who get No. 1 Ohio State next, while MSU gets another free-falling Big Ten contender in Purdue.
