The race for college basketball's player of the year awards may be a two-guard duel: Connecticut's dynamic Kemba Walker has made a team many thought was a borderline NCAA Tournament team into a bona fide contender in the Big East, and Brigham Young's Jimmer Fredette has shot the Cougars past virtually every challenge they've faced. But while Walker does his damage by slashing to the hoop, Fredette bombs away.

↵As the announcers note, Jimmer’s fantastic scoring output — he leads Division I in scoring, and has almost a two-points-per-game advantage on Walker — has only seemed to get better on the road in conference play. Over BYU’s three road dates against Mountain West teams, Fredette’s averaging 39.3 points per game, which is astounding.

It remains to be seen whether Fredette, whose combination of deadeye shooting and tireless work to get his shots recalls Stephen Curry and J.J. Redick, can carry BYU to NCAA Tournament glory. But if you're not watching Jimmer light up the scoreboard every night, you're missing one of the best shows running in college basketball.
