Jeremy Lamb took the starring role for the Connecticut Huskies on Tuesday night, coming through in a big way as the Huskies held off a pesky Marquette squad down the stretch. With Kemba Walker uncharacteristically cold from the field, Lamb took over, scoring 24 points in a 76-68 win. Walker shot just 5-16 from the field, and 0-5 from three-point range, finishing with 14 points, six rebounds and nine assists.
Marquette Vs. UConn Final Score: Jeremy Lamb Leads Huskies To 76-68 Win
The Huskies took a 38-31 lead into the half, but Marquette refused to go quietly into the night. In the second half, the Golden Eagles punched back, clawing their way into the lead midway through the half. A 9-4 run tied the game at 60 before UConn took over down the stretch, using a quick, 8-0 run to take the lead and control of the game. The run was all the Huskies needed as they held Marquette at bay down the stretch.
It was a tale of two benches in Milwaukee, with UConn’s scoring points and Marquette’s only accounting for points. Shabazz Napier was a solid contributor off the bench for the Huskies, finishing with 11 points and six rebounds. Charles Okwandu only scored two points for UConn off the bench, but finished with a game-high 10 rebounds.
Jimmy Butler led the Golden Eagles with 21 points, leading a four-headed attack for Marquette. Darius Johnson-Odom added 18, Dwight Buycks had 13 and Jae Crowder had 10. Those four accounted for all but six points for Marquette on the night.
UConn improved to 17-2 with the win while Marquette fell to 13-8.
