Texas A&M Head Coach Billy Kennedy Diagnosed With Parkinsons
Texas A&M announced Friday that new men’s basketball coach Billy Kennedy has been diagnosed with early stage of Parkinson’s disease.
“At this time, I am heeding the advice of my doctors and addressing the disease and its symptoms.”
He had already been on medical leave from the program. Top assistant Glynn Cyprien conducted A&M’s first practice on Friday and is expected to take over coaching duties.
Kennedy is in his first year with the Aggies after former head coach Mark Turgeon took a job with the University of Maryland last spring. Turgeon led A&M to its most successful five-year period in school history, making the NCAA tournament the past four years. Kennedy came to A&M from Murray State, where he coached for five years.
“Don’t worry, I’ll be back soon,” Kennedy said in a release from the school.
