NCAA Basketball Rankings: Tarheels Slightly Strengthen No. 1 Ranking In AP Poll

The North Carolina Tarheels strengthened their No. 1 ranking in the latest AP college basketball poll, adding a single point to their total from a week ago. The Tarheels still got 62 of the 65 first-place votes, with No. 3 Ohio State (one) and No. 4 Connecticut (two) getting the others. No. 2-ranked Kentucky has yet to receive a first-place vote in any of the three AP polls.

The team to take the biggest hit in the rankings was Pittsburgh, which saw its 58-game home non-conference winning streak snapped this week when the Panthers lost to still unranked Long Beach State. The Panthers fell from No. 9 to No. 17 in the poll. Arizona dropped from No. 15 to No. 23 after their loss on the road against Mississippi State, who moved into the Top 25 at No. 24.

Marquette was the most upwardly mobile team, going from No. 21 to No. 16. The Golden Eagles beat Winthrop and Mississippi this week.
