Tim Abromaitis Injury: Torn ACL Ends Notre Dame Senior’s Season
Notre Dame Fighting Irish fifth-year senior Tim Abromaitis has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during Friday practice and will miss the remainder of the 2011-12 season.
"Tim Abromaitis is one of the great stories in college athletics and represents everything that is good about college basketball," Irish head coach Mike Brey said. "We are all disappointed for Tim, because of all that he has meant to our program.
The team co-captain had played in two games this season for the Irish, averaging 14.0 points and 7.0 rebounds. He missed Notre Dame first four games due to misunderstanding of a technicality in an NCAA rule.
Abromaitis was a preseason all-Big East selection and a member of the 2011 USA Men’s Basketball World University Games Team in August.
Notre Dame’s post-season chances have taken a serious blow with the injury.
