Finally, after their 76-68 victory over Florida today, Kentucky has a big win in the SEC. It helped that the Wildcats were home against the Gators this time.
No. 22 Kentucky Vs. No. 13 Florida, Final Score: Wildcats Hold On For 76-68 Victory
Darius Miller led the Wildcats and all scorers with a career-high 24 points, and also contributed five rebounds, three assists, and three blocks. Between his consistent scoring and some superb three-point shooting from the whole Kentucky roster (seven of 14 from three), Kentucky was able to build a second half lead and coast to the finish.
The Wildcats are now 14-0 at home this season.
Poor free throw shooting and an inability to create inside doomed the Gators, and their own excellent three-point shooting (eight of 18) wasn’t able to make up the difference down the stretch. Kenny Boynton led the Gators with 18 points, and Chandler Parsons, still struggling with a nagging thigh injury, had 15.
Erving Walker, in particular, struggled, making just two of 10 shots and being rejected by taller defenders repeatedly. The Florida bench had just three points, on a three-pointer from Erik Murphy.
The Kentucky-Florida season series is now 1-1, with Kentucky getting revenge for a 70-68 loss in Gainesville with today’s win at Rupp Arena. The teams could meet again at the SEC Tournament — or in the NCAA Tournament.
