The first half of last night’s Carolina-Duke game couldn’t have gone much better from a Tar Heel’s perspective. Headed into halftime with a 43-29 lead, Roy Williams’ club was getting easy baskets, hitting from the perimeter, and most of all, controlling Duke on the defensive end. But then the second half came, and it all changed.

UNC had just lost its fifth game of the season, a 20-point head-scratcher to Paul Hewitt, while Duke had bounced back from its first loss of the season and started up a streak of ACC blowouts. But Carolina peeled off five consecutive conference wins of its own, and now this game will decide the ACC leader as conference tournament season looms.
