Everyone's favorite February rivalry to complain about, the season's first game between the North Carolina Tar Heels and the Duke Blue Devils, tips off tonight in Cameron Indoor Stadium. UNC holds the series edge, 130-99, but Duke has won 19 of the last 28 and pulled a sweep last year on their way to the national title.
UNC-Duke Game Reignites Tobacco Road Rivalry For 230th Time
Just a couple weeks ago, this game didn’t look to be all that big of a deal to anyone outside the Tar Heel State. UNC had just lost its fifth game of the season, a 20-point head-scratcher to Paul Hewitt, while Duke had bounced back from its first loss of the season and started up a streak of ACC blowouts. But Carolina peeled off five consecutive conference wins of its own, and now this game will decide the ACC leader as conference tournament season looms.
Duke Basketball Report seems especially confident in their matchup advantages, preferring Kyle Singler to Harrison Barnes and listing Nolan Smith as one of many deciding factors. Carolina March seems to think Duke relies too much on Singler and Smith -- and, of course, expects a Tar Heels victory.
