In the Big Ten quarterfinals on Friday night, Michigan State put No. 9 Purdue in familiar territory. Kalin Lucas put up a terrific, 30-point performance, and the Spartans handed the Boilermakers their second consecutive Big Ten Tournament rout, 74-56.
Lucas, a senior, shot 50 percent from the field and made the most of his opportunities from the free-throw line to record his 30 points. The Spartans won the rebound battle thanks to Draymond Green’s 13 boards.
Purdue was led by JaJuan Johnson’s 21 points and nine rebounds in the losing effort. This is the Boilermakers’ second consecutive tournament loss of 18 points or greater, as they fell to Minnesota in 2010, 69-42.
