In the Southland Conference Championship on Saturday, UTSA punched its ticket to the NCAA Tournament. The Roadrunners topped the Cowboys 75-72, but only after a determined rally from McNeese State.

Down 71-63 with under a minute remaining, McNeese State began to sink threes. When sent to the line, UTSA couldn’t sink its free throws reliably, opening the door for the Cowboys. McNeese State made it a one-possession game, but an out-of-bounds call all but sealed the win for the Roadrunners.
Jeromie Hill led UTSA with 25 points. Teammate Stephen Franklin recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. On the Cowboys’ side of the ball, Diego Kapelan contributed 20 points in a losing effort.
This is UTSA’s first Southland Conference Championship win since 2004; they figure to enter the Tournament as a 16-seed. McNeese State, meanwhile, falls a game short of winning its first conference title since 2002.
