Kemba Walker Announces 2011 NBA Draft Entry At Press Conference

Kemba Walker announced Tuesday that he’ll forego his final season of Connecticut Huskies basketball to enter the 2011 NBA Draft. He said he hasn’t chosen an agent yet, which likely raised hopes around Storrs for a tick, but added, “there’s no chance I’m coming back.”

Coach Jim Calhoun said NBA teams have declared Walker a top-10 pick, with one team assigning him a No. 1 overall grade. If he went tops, he’d be the second UConn basketball player this year to be taken first, after Maya Moore starred in the WNBA Draft on Monday.

Walker is on course to graduate from UConn in May.

Both Walker and Calhoun described the draft decision as timely. It very well could be perfect timing, with Jared Sullinger, Perry Jones III, and possibly Harrison Barnes remaining in the college ranks. Walker’s draft stock was already soaring before he even announced his choice to go pro.
