Tommy Amaker has chosen to remain head coach of the Harvard Crimson instead of returning to work in the ACC, politely declining a reported five-year, $1.1 million-per-year offer from the Miami Hurricanes. Here’s the Ivy League basketball coach in a statement released by the school:
Tommy Amaker Chooses Harvard Over Miami Basketball Coaching Offer
I am appreciative of and flattered by the interest shown in me by other fine universities, but I am proud and honored to represent Harvard. I look forward to continuing my efforts to teach, lead and serve at this great institution.
Amaker’s wife works as a Harvard professor, which surely has helped attach him to the university. He’s also led the basketball program to heights virtually never seen before, including its first Ivy championship of either regular season or tournament variety and its two winningest seasons.
Miami’s search for a new coach to replace Frank Haith continues. At what point does Frank Martin become the only name remaining?
