Andre Drummond Commits To UConn, Will Join Class Of 2011

Andre Drummond is headed to UConn -- but not in 2012, the year he originally planned to start school. Instead, the center is headed to Storrs in time to help the Huskies defend their national championship. We know this because of Twitter, where all things of this import are announced.

It's official I'm heading to the university of connecticut to be a husky this year! Do I hear #repeat #huskyfam @aoriakhi34less than a minute ago via Twitter for iPhone Favorite Retweet Reply

The cynic will note that starting at UConn immediately will also allow Drummond to go to the NBA earlier if he wants to do so. It’s not as clear-cut as the infamous one-and-done rule, because that’s age-based. But it’s also simple math; Drummond was going to go to college in 2012, and will now go in 2011 instead. (And that might all be moot if/when the NBA gets a new collective bargaining agreement.)

But that’s four or five steps in the future, and all fine print to UConn fans at the moment. Drummond is going to be a Husky.
