No. 21 Saint Mary’s Vs. Loyola Marymount: Lions Upset Gaels, 75-60

The Loyola Marymount Lions pulled off a 15-point victory against the St. Mary’s Gaels. St. Mary’s must now go on the road against Murray St. this weekend.

It wasn't how the Saint Mary's Gaels would have liked to enter the weekend's ESPN Bracketbusters contest against the Murray St. Racers, but they will be on the road after a home loss to the Loyola Marymount Lions, 75-60.

Poor shooting largely contributed to the Gaels' loss. The team made just 38.6 percent of its shots and tossed up 28 three-pointers, sinking just six. Rob Jones put up game-highs with 25 points and 15 rebounds, better than the combined point and rebound totals for the team's next two highest scorers. Clint Steindl and Matthew Dellavedova jointly contributed 22 points and 10 rebounds.

Loyola Marymount had four scorers reach double-digit points, led by Drew Viney's 17 points. He pulled down four boards, stole the ball three times and distributed the ball for two assists. Anthony Ireland followed closely with 16 points and seven assists.

Saint Mary’s has entered the final stretch of the regular season and will travel to the CFSB Center on Saturday for a chance to hand Murray St. its second loss of the season.
