Wednesday, Sports Illustrated released a special report by George Dohrmann detailing the fighting, drinking and drug use that has apparently been rampant within the UCLA program since the Bruins appeared in three straight Final Fours between 2006-2008.
UCLA Basketball Scandal: Bruins AD Will Not Commit To Keeping Ben Howland
When asked to confirm whether or not UCLA Bruins head coach Ben Howland's job is safe, AD Dan Guerrero stopped short of guaranteeing it to the LA Times:
“Ben has been with me nine years. This is a bump in the road and we’ll talk through things as they relate to the issues,” Guerrero said. “That’s where I want to leave it at this point.”
Guerrero added that he will meet with Howland at the end of the season.
Guerrero did admit that Howland told him he has made mistakes regarding players and the program:
The past several years, we have broken away from that in a large part. Ben has admitted he made mistakes in evaluation, whether evaluating talent or character.”
“That being said, I like the path we’re going on,” Guerrero added. “We’re talking about a few isolated incidents. We’re not talking about the entire program.”
