No. 10 Ohio State Vs. Northwestern: Buckeyes Escape With Late Basket For 75-73 Victory

The Ohio St. Buckeyes defeated the Northwestern Wildcats in the waning seconds of Wednesday night’s game. Jared Sullinger scored the winning layup with three seconds left in the game.

Presswire

The No. 10 Ohio St. Buckeyes barely escaped Evanston, Ill., with a victory over the Northwestern Wildcats, but they did to the tune of a 75-73 victory. It was a far cry from the double-digit leads the team had throughout the game.

The Wildcats were down, 73-70 with 47 seconds left on the clock, but Alex Marcotullio came up big time with a 24-foot three-pointer to tie the game at 73. That was with 7.7 seconds left on the clock. The Buckeyes, countered, though, with an in-bounds pass from its own end of the court that wound up in the hands of Jared Sullinger, who nailed the game-winning layup on an assist from Aaron Craft. John Shurna attempted one last heave-ho, but it fell short.

Sullinger led Ohio State with 22 points and 18 rebounds while Deshaun Thomas added 19 points and 10 rebounds. Aaron Craft's 14 points and Lenzelle Smith Jr.'s 12 points rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Buckeyes.

Drew Crawford put in 23 points for the Wildcats, one more point than Shurna's 22. The team lost the rebounding battle, 42-16, to Ohio State.

The Buckeyes (24-6) have alternated wins and losses in its last six games and will close out the regular season against the No. 5 Michigan St. Spartans on Sunday.
