NIT Tournament 2012, Tennessee Vs. Savannah State: Volunteers Advance With 65-51 Win

Rashad Hassan had a stellar game for the Savannah State Tigers, but the team as a whole shot the ball poorly as they fell to the Tennessee Volunteers. Only two Tigers starters made a field goal and the team shot 35 percent from the floor. The Volunteers weren't at their offensive best, but they got to the free-throw line regularly and rode their free-throw shooting to a 65-51 victory.

Jarnell Stokes led Tennessee with 13 points and he was one of four Vols to score in double figures. Tennessee shot 19-26 from the free-throw line, while Savannah State shot a poor 6-14 from the line. Tennessee certainly wasn't dominant in any other area of the game as Savannah State played well defensively and showed why they won the MEAC regular season title, but their inability to hit foul shots was their undoing.

Tennessee moves on to face the winner of Middle Tennessee State - Marshall in the second round.
