NIT Tournament 2012, Drexel Vs. UNI: Panthers Claw Back But Can’t Finish Rally

The Drexel Dragons led by as many as 18 points in the first half of Sunday's 2012 NIT Tournament second round game against the Northern Iowa Panthers. UNI spent the entire second half chipping away at that lead, eventually pulling within one point on a Johnny Moran three pointer with 34.6 seconds left in the second half and making it 61-60. Down 65-63 with two seconds to go, Moran attempted what would have been the game-winning 3-pointer. The ball clanged off the back of the rim, however, and Drexel advanced to the quarterfinals.

Moran led the Panthers with 19 points on 6-for-14 shooting (5-for-11 beyond the arc), adding eight rebounds. Seth Tuttle also had eight rebounds to go along with nine points, helping the Panthers to a 30-20 rebounding advantage for the game.

Samme Givens was unstoppable, however, scoring 28 on 11-for-13 shooting. Chris Fouch had 16 points and Frantz Massenat had 11, helping the Dragons shoot 52.3 percent from the field and 70 percent from behind the 3-point arc.

Drexel moves on to play the UMass Minutemen on Tueday, upset winners over the 1-seed Seton Hall Pirates on Saturday.
