Texas needed a win, or wins, in the 2012 Big 12 Tournament to bolster its candidacy for an at-large bid in the NCAA Tournament. The 71-65 triumph over Iowa State that the Longhorns scored on Thursday won’t hurt.
Iowa State Vs. Texas Final Score: Longhorns Win 71-65, Bolster NCAA Tournament Chances
J'Covan Brown led all scorers with 23 points for the Longhorns, and Clint Chapman added 10 points and eight rebounds for Texas, which moves on to the Big 12 semifinals on Friday. The Longhorns have likely done enough to make the NCAA Tournament even with a loss to Missouri tomorrow, but would cement their place with an upset of the Tigers.
Iowa State, led by Royce White's 17 points and 10 rebounds, was already fairly safe in terms of NCAA Tournament hopes. The most the Cyclones likely lost against Texas was some seeding position.
