Alex Oriakhi, the former UConn big man, is headed to Missouri. Gary Parrish of CBS broke the news via Twitter:
Alex Oriakhi Transferring To Missouri
Connecticut's Alex Oriakhi has decided to transfer to Missouri for his final season, a source told @CBSSports. Story coming.— Gary Parrish (@GaryParrishCBS) April 13, 2012
Oriakhi chose the Tigers from suitors including UNC, Duke, and Kentucky.
Mizzou loses some serious talent from a team that looked like it would go deep in the NCAA Tournament before being upset by No. 15 Norfolk State: Marcus Denmon, Kim English, Ricardo Ratliffe -- all of whom averaged greater than 10 points per game -- graduate along with Matt Pressey. The Tigers need help right away, and Oriakhi -- although he's better known as a rebounder -- would like to provide it.
After UConn was deemed ineligible for the 2013 NCAA Tournament due to a low Academic Progress Rating, they appealed. Because they lost their appeal, Oriakhi is eligible to play immediately without sitting out a year.
