Ohio State Buckeyes coach Thad Motta announced Monday that guard Jordan Sibert and forward J.D. Weatherspoon have been released from their scholarships. The two sophomores played sparingly off the bench during their two years in Columbus and are seeking to transfer to programs where they can receive more playing time.

“My two years as an Ohio State Buckeye were great,” Sibert said in a statement issued by the school. “Playing in the Final Four this year was a dream come true.
“I’ve decided to transfer after discussing my future goals with family and my coaches. I would like to find a school where I can make an impact on the court. I will miss my teammates, my coaches and the fans. I will always be a Buckeye.”
Sibert appeared in 49 games the last two years, averaging 3.0 points and 1.38 rebounds in 11.4 minutes a game this past season. Weatherspoon appeared in 25 games this past season after appearing in just 10 as a freshman. He averaged 3.0 points and 1.08 rebounds in 6.3 minutes a game last season.
“J.D. has done everything we’ve asked,” Matta said in a statement issued by the school. “I can relate to a young man’s desire to play. I was in his shoes during my collegiate career. His teammates and our staff appreciate the hard work J.D. has put in to make our team better. We wish him nothing but the best.”
