TCU Coaching Search: Trent Johnson Informs LSU He’s Accepting Horned Frogs Job

LSU Tigers men's basketball coach Trent Johnson has reportedly informed athletic director Joe Alleva that he will be taking the same position at TCU. Though the Horned Frogs don't have the reputation of as much of a basketball program as the Tigers, WAFB in Baton Rouge reported that he was offered an approximate $800,000 a year pay raise up to $2 million, including incentives for graduating players, which was too much to turn down.

The Horned Frogs will be moving to the Big 12 next year, which is why they feel more secure offering Johnson more than three times as much in salary as their previous coach, Jim Christian, who is replacing John Groce at Ohio. The Horned Frogs went 17-15 in their last season in the Mountain West. LSU had a disappointing season in the SEC despite bringing in a dominant freshman big man in Johnny O’Bryant III, finishing just 18-15.

WAFB, which clearly has some well-placed sources, also has some inkling on who the next LSU coach might be. From the same story:

Several people with strong influence in the LSU basketball circle are already pushing hard for North Texas head coach and former LSU assistant Johnny Jones to be Johnson's replacement. Alleva will listen to what they have to say.
