In the third quarter, Michigan State finally scored the first touchdown of the game on either side, as Kirk Cousins connected with wide receiver B.J. Cunningham for a 48-yard touchdown. Cunningham was left wide open in the backfield, and proceeded to run into the end zone untouched.
