The finish to Saturday’s Oklahoma-Texas game was wild. For Texas, it was largely for the wrong reasons.
Oklahoma 28, Texas 20: Longhorns Fumble Away Chances For Win In Final Minutes
In the fourth quarter, the No. 8 Sooners had the ball in Texas territory with a 28-17 lead. On fourth down, they attempted a fake field goal that failed badly. The Longhorns were stifled on the ensuing possession, but later managed a field goal to cut the deficit to 28-20.
With minutes left, Oklahoma had the ball and an eight-point lead, and they narrowly avoided disaster. In their own territory, quarterback Landry Jones lost the handle on the ball, and it looked as though the prone Jones managed to swat the ball out of bounds before Texas could recover the ball in Oklahoma territory.
Oklahoma was forced to punt, but Texas returner Aaron Williams muffed the catch, and the ball was recovered by the Sooners, sealing a heartbreaking loss for the Longhorns.
