If any conference can claim the Rodney Dangerfield “No respect!” routine this season, it’s the Big 12.
College Football Rankings: Big 12 Becomes Middle-Class Conference In Week 9 USA Today Poll
The USA Today coaches poll for Week 9 helps make their case: five teams are ranked, but none in the top seven, and undefeated Missouri slots in behind one-loss Alabama despite upsetting the top-ranked team in last week’s BCS rankings.
But in the Big 12’s last season with 12 teams, it’s nice to see that the blue-bloods who have dominated the conference aren’t necessarily the standard-bearers. Texas, after a bad loss to Iowa State, falls out of the rankings, and long-downtrodden Baylor makes a triumphant return to the top 25. If the non-Texas schools were peeved at the Longhorns’ demands this summer during the conference expansion carousel, imagine how mad they are now, as Texas slips into mediocrity on the field but maintains enormous leverage off of it.
Full Big 12 rankings are as follows:
- No. 8 Missouri
- No. 11 Oklahoma
- No. 12 Nebraska
- No. 20 Oklahoma State
- No. 24 Baylor
