Missouri Vs. Nebraska: Tigers Know Hope, And Then Forget To Cover Roy Helu

The first half of the third quarter of Missouri-Nebraska was a snoozy affair for almost exactly half its minutes. The Tigers were riddled with sacks and incompletions on their first set of downs, and Zac Lee, in for the injured Taylor Martinez, puts together a drive that consists of one handoff, a 10-yard Huskers penalty, and two incomplete passes. Nebraska punts.

This is about where Missouri decides they'd like to try putting together a real football drive, and for four minutes, it's all Blaine Gabbert. He gets a 25-yard rush all by his lonesome, completes two third-down conversion passes to Michael Egnew, and finally hits T.J. Moe down the middle for a 23-yard score.

Nebraska, being today's Nebraska, returns the kickoff 28 yards (Tin Marlowe on the carry) and puts in Roy Helu, who needs two tries this time to break free for a 54-yard scoring run. With 6:55 remaining in the third quarter, Nebraska leads Missouri, 31-14.

INJURY UPDATE: Taylor Martinez limped off the field at the end of the second quarter and has yet to return to play, but other than “he hurt his leg,” nobody’s talking.
