After Alabama and Mississippi State traded three field goals in the first quarter, the Crimson Tide have added one of those new-fangled touchdown things in Tuscaloosa.
Alabama Vs. Mississippi State: Marquis Maze Breaks Through For Game’s First Touchdown
Greg McElroy found Marquis Maze, who shook loose for a 45-yard touchdown, and Jeremy Shelley banged home the extra point for a 13-3 lead.
That’s bad news for Mississippi State, and an offense that has found it very hard to score points against SEC competition. The Bulldogs have topped 20 points just twice in SEC play, and scored more than 13 only three times. And no defense the Bulldogs have faced combines championship pedigree and talent quite like Alabama’s does.
Worse still, if Mississippi State is forced to throw, the benefits of Chris Relf as a runner in the multiple-option offense all but evaporate. And the Bulldogs aren’t far from that juncture.
