BCS Rankings: Predictions For How Week 12 Could Alter Bowl Outlook

Oregon, Auburn, and TCU are the top three teams in the BCS rankings, but this week brings must-win games for Boise State, LSU, and Wisconsin, if those teams are to keep their BCS bowl campaigns on tracks. What BCS scenarios could happen if those teams lose?

No. 4 Boise State vs. Fresno State, Friday, 9:00 p.m.

If Boise State wins: The Broncos continue to close the gap on TCU for a BCS bowl berth, and keep BCS National Championship Game hopes on life support.

If Fresno State wins: Boise State’s long wait for a national title shot gets a little longer.

No. 5 LSU vs. Mississippi, 3:30 p.m.

If LSU wins: The Tigers maintain their position as a likely BCS at-large selection.

If Mississippi wins: LSU’s magical mystery tour is finally done for.

No. 6 Stanford at California, 3:30 p.m.

If Stanford wins: The Cardinal keep their longshot BCS (and Pac-10) hopes alive.

If Cal wins: Bet on a few celebratory tweets from Aaron Rodgers, and look for Stanford to end up in the Holiday Bowl.

No. 7 Wisconsin vs. Michigan, noon

If Wisconsin wins: The Badgers stay on track to win a Big Ten Championship and play either TCU or Boise State in the Rose Bowl.

If Michigan wins: Ohio State moves into pole position in the Big Ten race, and Wisconsin would likely be bound for a Florida bowl in January.

No. 9 Ohio State at No. 20 Iowa, 3:30 p.m.

If Ohio State wins: The Buckeyes stay in line to receive a BCS at-large bid and win the Big Ten Championship with a Wisconsin loss.

If Iowa wins: Michigan State sneaks past Ohio State in the line for BCS at-large bids, and both the Buckeyes and Hawkeyes are likely to go bowling in Florida in January.
