I’m tired of trying to explain the SEC’s “down year”: it’s not “down,” just different.
College Football Rankings: SEC Prospers In Week 13 USA Today Poll
Six SEC teams show up in the USA Today coaches poll for Week 13, pacing all Football Bowl Subdivision conferences, and five are in the top 17. That is the exact same thing I wrote in this space last week, except for the Week 13 part.
This is because the SEC has been oddly dominant rather than traditionally dominant: Auburn is playing the role Alabama has played of late, LSU is near the top rather than in the middle, and Arkansas and South Carolina are the mid-range teams, not Georgia or Tennessee. It’s not all that strange — with the exception, perhaps, of Florida not being ranked at all.
And, really, it’s more surprising that the SEC’s usual suspects are so routinely atop the polls and BCS rankings than that the cycle should differ for one year.
Full SEC rankings are as follows:
- No. 2 Auburn
- No. 6 LSU
- No. 11 Alabama
- No. 12 Arkansas
- No. 17 South Carolina
- No. 25 Mississippi State
