2010 Bowl Projections: Barring Upsets, TCU Will Play In Rose Bowl

TCU played a tough schedule and finished strong, and for that, the Horned Frogs will be richly rewarded with a BCS bowl berth.

The only thing that remains to be seen is whether that bowl will be the Rose Bowl in Pasadena or the BCS National Championship Game in Glendale.

TCU has all but locked up a Rose Bowl berth. The Horned Frogs are going to be the highest-ranked team from a a non-BCS automatic qualifier conference, thanks to an undefeated regular season, and that distinction comes with a trip to the Rose Bowl — where TCU’s stubborn defense would likely face Wisconsin’s explosive offense — this season.

But there is still a chance that TCU could play for a national championship. The Horned Frogs will be the presumptive replacement for either Oregon or Auburn in the top two of the final BCS rankings should one or both of those teams lose. And if TCU does move up, it would be headed to the BCS National Championship Game, becoming the first team from a non-BCS automatic qualifier conference to do so.

So TCU fans should probably be rooting for South Carolina and Oregon State this week. It might pay off.
