The Virginia Tech Hokies have now won seven straight games for the first time since 2005, something not many people expected to see after the Hokies lost the first two games of the season to Boise State and James Madison. Virginia Tech still has a solid lead in the ACC Coastal Division, but Georgia Tech didn’t make it easy.
No. 20 Virginia Tech Holds Off Georgia Tech, Wins 28-21
The Yellow Jackets stormed out to a quick 14-0 lead thanks to two Josh Nesbitt touchdown runs, one covering 71 yards. The Hokies were able to get within one score before the half after a Ryan Williams 4 yard rush. Georgia Tech went into the locker room with a seven point lead, but they lost their leader for the rest of the game when Josh Nesbitt broke his arm after throwing an interception late in the second quarter.
After a scoreless third quarter, the Hokies scored two fourth quarter touchdowns to take a 21-14 lead. The game seemed to be in hand for Virginia Tech, but the Yellow Jackets were able to march eighty yards in 4 minutes for the tying score. Immediately afterwards the Hokies took the lead for good when David Wilson took the ensuing kick off 90 yards to the end zone.
Georgia Tech rushed for a whopping 346 yards in the loss.
