Texas A&M just finished pulling off a stunning upset of No. 9 Oklahoma, a victory that could shake up the BCS and Big 12 Championship races.
Oklahoma Vs. Texas A&M: Aggies Upset Sooners And Championship Races
Ryan Tannehill was 19-of-32 for 225 yards, 2 TDs and a pair of interceptions. Cyrus Gray ran for 122 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries. Landry Jones threw the ball a jaw-dropping 59 times for Oklahoma, completing 36 of them for 290 yards, a touchdown and an interception. But the Sooners ground game was, well, grounded. Oklahoma generated just 72 yards and 44 rushes.
Statistical oddity: Despite losing and being outgained by the Aggies by 20 yards, the Sooners had 12 more first downs (29-17). They completed almost half their third downs (11-of-23). But when a team dig a 19-point hole to begin the game, it’s pretty hard for said team to fight out of the hole if it doesn’t score until the third quarter.
The loss drops Oklahoma to 7-2, leaving one fewer one-loss team for TCU and Boise State to worry about. It also knocks them down to 3-2 in the Big 12, with games against Texas Tech and at Baylor and Oklahoma State still on the schedule. With a win today against Baylor, Oklahoma State now leads the Big 12 South, with the Sooners a half-game behind the Bears for second place.
Yes, Oklahoma is behind Baylor in the Big 12 South. (And they’re tied with Texas A&M, which technically means they’re behind the Aggies due to the tiebreaker.) We’ve been telling you this year is crazy.
