Michael Haywood Expected To Be New Pitt Football Coach, According To Report
But his RedHawks improved by eight wins this season, an outrageous sum at any school, winning the MAC after a single-win 2009 campaign. His team’s offensive and defensive production finished within several yards per game of Pitt’s.
His most noteworthy other experience was as Charlie Weis’ offensive coordinator and running backs coach at Notre Dame, though he’s also coached a smorgasbord of positions at Texas, LSU, Ball State, Ohio, and Army. He played wide receiver and defensive back at Notre Dame in the ’80s.
Zeise says Haywood could be announced as Pitt’s head coach tomorrow. Haywood would be the first African-American head coach of Pitt football.
Haywood would be the second MAC coach to get the call-up to a BCS conference this week, after Temple Owls coach Al Golden was introduced as Miami Hurricanes head coach.
