Before Al Golden was named head coach at Temple, the Owls had been awful for decades. They one more than four games once from 1985-2005, the season before Golden took over and Temple went 1-11. The program was so bad that, in 2004, Temple got thrown out of the Big East.
Temple Interviewing Steve Addazio. Do Not Be Alarmed (Yet)
But Golden led the Owls on a long climb to respectability, and Temple went 17-8 in 2009 and so far this season until the coach bolted for Miami. So who will now take over and lead the Owls all the way to, maybe, a MAC championship?
Steve Addazio, who this year served as the offensive coordinator at Florida under Urban Meyer, will interview for the head coaching position at Temple.
Oh. Well, good luck with that.
In fairness, Addazio likely caught a bit too much flack from Florida fans for last year’s offensive “woes,” after the team went from first in the SEC in total offense in 2008 under Dan Mullen to -- um, first in total offense in 2009. And Addazio is not solely to blame for the offense falling off a cliff this year, when it landed at tenth in the conference after losing quarterback Tim Tebow. That said, there’s a reason that Florida fans view news that Addazio will not return as offensive coordinator next year as a sort of early Christmas present.
But Temple fans should not panic. After all, it’s not like the MAC would ever kick them out, right?
