Notre Dame Coach Brian Kelly Knows Juarez, Mexico Is No Place For Football Players

Notre Dame’s football team is in El Paso, Texas, preparing for its New Year’s Eve match-up against Miami in the Sun Bowl. El Paso happens to be located on the boarder of Texas and Mexico, right next to Juarez, where drug wars have taken the lives of 3,000 people in 2010. Coach Brian Kelly knows this, and isn’t taking any chances that his players may go exploring south of the boarder ... by confiscating their passports:

↵↵“That’s serious. Don’t go over the border, or you may not come back, simply,” Kelly said. “Now I know El Paso isn’t the safest city in the country, but it’s serious. This isn’t, ‘Hey, let’s give it a shot, guys, and jump in the car and see what it’s like.’ You can’t go there, or nobody is going to be able to help you. There’s just been too much turmoil. … You take the passports, they can’t get back. These guys are smart enough to know that.”
