To help prime you for Tuesday’s college football doubleheader, we’ve compiled this handy list of fun factoids concerning the 2010 Insight Bowl.
Proper name: Insight Bowl! Fancy, huh?
2010 Insight Bowl Game: Time, Location, History And More
Setting: The sad little takeout window of the Fiesta Bowl is relegated to Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, where the accommodations are not as comfy, but the sun-blasted ladies are plentiful.
Traditional conference pairing: Big Ten versus Big 12
2010 matchup: The No. 12 Missouri Tigers (10-2) against the Iowa Hawkeyes (7-5)
Announcers: The inoffensive Sean McDonough, the fetching Heather Cox -- and Matt Millen being associated with something called the “Insight Bowl.” By all means, enjoy that.
Neatest fact: There was a third Pizza Bowl once, albeit not in name: Domino’s sponsored the then-Copper Bowl in 1989 and 1990.
Closest finish: The lone overtime finish in bowl history also featured the biggest comeback in college football postseason history: In 2006, Texas Tech was down 31 points and recouped that plus two kicks to knock off Minnesota in the first OT period.
Most lopsided finish: Kansas State waylaid Wyoming, 52-17, in the 1993 matchup.
Tidbits of interest: Is this postseason contest the cradle of journeyman quarterbacks? Previous Insight Bowl MVPs include Drew Bledsoe, Marc Bulger, Sage Rosenfels, and Derek Anderson. And do volunteers get to keep those adorable banana blazers?
The 2010 Insight Bowl kicks off at 10 p.m. EST, Tuesday, December 28. The game will be televised on ESPN. For a complete list of bowls, browse our 2010 college football postseason schedule.
