Sun Bowl, Miami Vs. Notre Dame: An Action-Free Third Quarter In El Paso

The third quarter of the 2010 Sun Bowl is as football-free as the second quarter was football-ful. The 'Canes get the ball to start things off, and need less than a minute to reel off a three-and-out.

In sharp contrast, the Fighting Irish take six and a half minutes off the clock with their opening drive. Tommy Rees, apparently recovered sufficiently from his first-half injury, hands off to Robert Hughes most of the way, but the drive is stymied at the goal line and Notre Dame must settle for a 19-yard David Ruffer field goal.

Two longish, fruitless drives are traded for the remainder of the period, but 'Canes fans should perhaps be thankful that at least freshman quarterback Stephen Morris, injured himself, is not intercepted during this time. At the end of the third quarter, Notre Dame still leads Miami, 30-3.
