The best of the rest of the Big Ten and SEC could meet up the Capital One Bowl this January.
Bowl Projections: Capital One Could Feature Michigan State, Alabama
11-1 Michigan State and defending national champion Alabama are currently projected to meet up in the Capital One Bowl in Orlando on New Year’s Day, producing a matchup of two of the nation’s more balanced offenses.
And while there’s no official announcement just yet, SB Nation’s Alabama blog, Roll Bama Roll, has found some Twitter chatter that suggests this will be announced as the the Capital One’s matchup later this evening. That’s a good thing, it thinks:
Match-up notwithstanding, though, I feel it’s a fairly solid draw regardless. The Capital One Bowl is largely regarded as the best of the non-BCS bowls, and while the Cotton Bowl would have been fun it’s probably better for us to end up in the Capital One simply because we recruit in Florida much more than we do in Texas. As an added bonus, we also get Nick Saban going against another one of his old schools, and it’s also the first time Alabama has ever played Michigan State. And it will also be a bit of a revenge game for Mark Ingram. The Flint, Michigan product would get to go against his hometown team of sorts: Michigan State is his father’s alma mater.
