South Carolina took a double-digit lead against Auburn in the first half. Cameron Newton erased that. The Gamecocks led entering the fourth quarter. Newton erased that, too.
Cameron Newton Likely To Reside In South Carolina’s Nightmares For Years To Come
↵Newton, Auburn’s rhino-bodied, cannon-armed quarterback, ran for 176 yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries, and completed 16 of 21 passes for 158 yards and two touchdowns. He wasn’t the only thing Auburn had working on the night (the Tigers rushed for 334 yards as a team) but he outclassed both of Steve Spurrier’s quarterbacks, individually and as a tandem.

For once, that took some work, because this may have been Stephen Garcia's finest game: 231 yards on 15 of 21 passing, and three touchdowns may not have been enough to keep Spurrier from yanking him for Connor Shaw later, but it was certainly a standard deviation or three above his average night. Newton's got gifts Garcia can't touch, though, and Auburn fans are likely salivating over what he might do once he gets a fifth start against FBS competition under his belt.
