Don’t Hate The Player...

And now, after the jump, in honor of Monday night's BCS title game, some journalistic highlights inspired by Cam Newton over the past few months.

The Heisman trophy will need a lie-detector device strapped to its stiff arm. ... You remember Gainesville, where Newton spent his freshman year going around campus with a bracelet reading WWTND?

I think the Newton family, already having experienced big-time college football at Florida, thought it wasn’t fair that those universities made as much money as they did off their son while they got nothing at all.
That’s why when all is said and done, I’m convinced Newton will be ruled ineligible. (Via)

My vote this year is a vote for the trophy. It is designed to protect the Heisman and what it means. If doing that deprives Newton of a spot among the award’s list of luminaries, so be it. (Via)

Given what is now known beyond dispute, it’s impossible for me not to penalize Cam for his father’s sins. Is it not that way in real life? If a father breaks the law and goes to jail, do not his children suffer in lost income and lost quality time? (Via)

Also like Ben Roethlisberger, they’re both criminals! (Via)

You may recall in the movie The Wedding Singer, a particular scene where Julia (Drew Barrymore) refers to her fiance’s line of work as being “in junk bonds.” Offended, her fiance Glenn (Matthew Glave) insists that he is in the business of “high-yield bonds.” Both are technically correct. Junk bonds or speculative-grade bonds are actually high-yield, but they are also high risk. In the realm of college football, Cam Newton is a prime example of a junk bond.

...Auburn should ask itself: Were the risks worth the rewards, or was going “all in” on a junk bond the biggest mistake of its program? (Via)

I fail to understand how someone can say "athletes make money for university", but how the nerdy kid who paid 200K for 4 years did not make money for the university. By my math, he/she made them $200K. ... This is like complaining that you can't buy a Beatles song on iTunes. Apple created iTunes, they make rules. If u want better, invent iTunes yourself. Otherwise, quit whining. (Via)

So Cam Newton is eligible -- for Saturday night’s game against South Carolina, for the Heisman and for the BCS National Championship Game, should No. 1-ranked Auburn win the SEC title. But something still doesn’t feel right.

...This isn’t the end; it’s the beginning. Of loophole chaos. (Via)

And so, ladies and gentlemen, this is where we are in sports today. Integrity = nothing. ... It seems the depressing words from Shakespeare’s more noble Othello ring truer today than ever.

Take note, take note, O world, To be direct and honest is not safe.” (Via)

My question is, why are they all so MAD?
