Fiesta Bowl: Ryan Broyles Fumbles Would-Be Connecticut-Killing Punt Return, Disappoints Matt Millen

In the interest of sportsmanship, Oklahoma has tried to do everything within its power to keep the Fiesta Bowl close. The Sooners have called (and missed) an inexplicable fake field goal and generally shot themselves in the foot just when the game-clinching moment seems to be within reach.

So it wasn't really that much of a surprise when Ryan Broyles was running down the field with a punt return that could have all but eliminated the Huskies from the game and this happened.

↵

↵The score at the time was 34-20 late in the third quarter. And while we hate to agree with Matt Millen on anything, you have to wonder exactly what Broyles was thinking holding the ball away from his body like that. He could always just argue that he was trying to save the bowl’s television ratings, though that was probably a lost cause once Connecticut won the Big East.
