2011 Senior Bowl: North Staging Rally, Cuts South Lead In Third Quarter

Perhaps it was too early to write off the North’s chances in the 2011 Senior Bowl.

After a woeful first half in which it gained just 18 yards, the North squad turned things around in the third quarter, and now trails the South by just a touchdown, 17-10.

The North rally was partially led by, of all people, Jake Locker. The Washington quarterback’s bad week has been marked by inaccuracy and inconsistency, but he helped lead the South’s first touchdown drive of the day, capped by a Da’Rel Scott touchdown from one yard out. He’s now completed three of five passes for 51 yards.

Nevada’s Colin Kaepernick got the North on the board first, quarterbacking a drive that finished with a Kai Forbath field goal.

The North still hasn’t gotten much of a running game going — on 15 carries, North runners have tallied a whopping three yards through three quarters — but their passing game has made the 2011 Senior Bowl competitive.

Of course, things could change in the fourth quarter: the North could maintain its momentum, but the South, stocked with SEC, Big 12, and ACC talent could very well rise again and put this one out of reach.
