2011 Orange Bowl, Stanford Vs. Virginia Tech: Andrew Luck Touchdown Pass Regains Cardinal Lead
The Cardinal set up at their own 21-yard line, and Andrew Luck comes up big on first down, hitting Zach Ertz over the middle for a 14-yard gain. Several assorted short rushes by Stepfan Taylor and Jeremy Stewart later, we get our first Luck highlight of the evening: A 25-yard touchdown pass, again to Zach Ertz, again over the middle. A score already adulterated by a safety gets weirded again as Nate Whitaker misses the extra point, but the Cardinal regain the lead nonetheless.
They’ll hang onto it even after the Hokies’ next possession, featuring another spectacular throw by Tyrod Taylor and leaping midfield catch by Jarrett Boykin, ends in a 37-yard field goal. As both teams hit the locker rooms for a suddenly much-needed breather, Stanford leads Virginia Tech, 13-12.
