2011 Cotton Bowl, LSU Vs. Texas A&M: Tigers Widen The Gap To Open Third Quarter

It doesn't take long for the third quarter of the 2011 Cotton Bowl to get the scoreboard clicking. (Does the scoreboard in the Jerrydome even make noise? Probably not, right? If anything, perhaps a pleasant, industrial-yet-unobtrusive hum.) Patrick Peterson, who inexplicably continues to be kicked to by opponents of all stripes, takes the opening kickoff out 32 yards from just outside his own endzone, and the Tigers set up at the 33. What follows won't even take two and a half minutes.

Stevan Ridley runs up the middle for a paltry one-yard gain. Jordan Jefferson is sacked on second down, but makes up third-and-19 and more by running for a 32-yard gain on the next play. Richard Murphy pops in for a play and gains three yards, but it's Jefferson's arm that will do the dirty work, connecting once again with Terrence Toliver for a 41-yard touchdown. With 12:37 remaining in the third quarter, LSU leads Texas A&M, 35-17.
